Mid-Week Recharge

PSALM 149:3 says, “Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp.
For a pick-me-up on this cloudy and cool Wednesday I thought a little reminder about the little joys in life would be ideal. This little guy understands what it means to dance to the “King” (Elvis). If all Christians could remember to be as enthusiastic about dancing and praising our King Jesus, just like this dude, the world might not feel so heavy. Hope you get a smile and a great RECHARGE with this one! Don’t forget to SHARE this or another post this week with your friends!

Lesson 2 – RECHARGE – Breaking Through Arrested Spiritual Development

This week we talked about ways that our spiritual growth can be slowed or halted entirely and how to begin healing from it. Here’s a recap of the sheets you filled out in class with answers provided in case you missed anything.

VERSE OF THE WEEK: John 4:13-14

Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst, but the water that I give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

There can be a growth disease diagnosed in today’s churches and its members. This can properly be

All Christians experience seasons of ____SPIRITUAL DRYNESS_________.

All Christians also experience seasons of ________FRESH FIRE__________ and a pouring of________BLESSINGS_____  and    _____RIGHTEOUSNESS_______.

There are several verses in the Word of God that address this.

PSALM 63:1 is the first one. This verse gives us an answer AND a remedy to spiritual dryness it is

___TO__   ___SEEK__  __HIM___  __EARNESTLY__! Ultimately this will lend to___PERSONAL____   ___SPIRITUAL_____   _____GROWTH_____. (see also Matthew 16:24)

ISAIAH 55:3,10-11 is another verse.

This is a promise God gives us in His word. He is promising that if we ____STUDY___ His word, we can remain ____SPIRTUALLY____   ______SATISFIED_____.

Satan toys with our ____EMOTIONS_________ to stop developing spiritually or to halt our growth entirely.

If there is no ___INTERNAL___   ____GROWTH____ within the church, there will be no ___EXTERNAL_____   ____GROWTH_____ either.

Church should be the _____HIGHLIGHT_______ of every Christian’s week! It’s a glimpse into what ____CORPORATE_____    ____WORSHIP____ looks like in eternity!

Three Ways We Can HEAL from Arrested Spiritual Development

1.___PRAY____! Everything we do should begin with ___PRAYER_____. Every decision we make should be considered with ___GOD____ as our ____MENTOR___!

Reference PHILIPPIANS 4:6

2. Address areas of ____UNCONFESSED______ or ____CONTINUED__ __SIN___. This is so critical! We all __SIN__ and we all   ___STRUGGLE______ with sin.

Do some spiritual inventory! Ask yourself:

~ is there an area of sin in my life I continue doing?

~ have I confessed this sin to God? have I confessed this to another person (Christian)?

~ have I attempted to correct my sin and recover from it with accountability?

This can also apply within the ___CHURCH______.  It is the job of the __PASTOR____to address unconfessed sin among members. But let us be open to our brothers and sister to lean on.

Reference PROVERBS 28:13

After you have prayed and addressed unconfessed sin, you should feel recharged and ready to take on a new task to spur on more spiritual growth.

Some of the hardest work in being a Christian is __REACHING__  __OUT__ to those __OUTSIDE____ of our ___BELIEFS_____.  Yet, this is our __CHARGE___from God as He said in the Great Commission.

FRIEND #1 – Reach out to a member/attender of our church. Bless them in an encouraging way. Start by praying for God to lay someone on your heart and then reach out with a random act of kindness, card, or phone call to pray for them.

FRIEND #2 – Reach out to someone in your “sphere of influence” who is lost. They don’t know or understand Jesus. Be a bright light in their day and invite them to church. Ways to do this: writing out our service times and address, mention Coffee Break or WHAM, invite them to LIKE our church FB page and then bless them with something small. Candy, card, flowers, an encouragement pertaining to their situation. To increase your challenge, reach out to an “enemy” of yours. It will cause you to be challenged and allow them to think and ponder.

HOMEWORK: Share a blog post on social media along with Friend Week.

Just do it!  Be Blessed!

Verse of the Week – Recharge Week Two

For the week of September 25th, let’s keep in mind this verse. This is also an encouragement to never stop thirsting for God’s refreshment – even in times of spiritual dryness. Thanks to those who attended class today! Remember, ALL are welcome to join us on Sundays 11:30 – 12:10 for TELOS!

Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst. But the water that I give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

John 4: 13-14

RECHARGE Recap Week 1 – The Four Arms of Sunday School

I Corinthians 12:27 – “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part in it.”

Romans 12:4 – “For just as each of us has one body with many member, and these members do not all have the same function so in Christ, we thought many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others”

We are all part of the body of Christ. The “Arms” could be noted as the Sunday School ministries within the church. There are four ways the arms of the church could be noted and ordered. They are:

  1. The REACHING Arm – Making contact with a person and having them hear the Gospel.

It is “Pre-Evangelism” while Evangelism is “giving out the Gospel” Reaching could be noted as “Pre-Evangelism” or what WE DO to get people to hear the gospel. Can also be known as “to gather”

  1. Fathers/ Grandfathers
  2. Mothers/ Grandmothers
  3. Pastors
  4. Teachers
  5. Neighbors

VERSE to NOTE – Easily based on The Great Commission –

Matthew 28: 19-20 –

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

  1. The TEACHING Arm – Teaching is noted as guiding the activities that meet human needs

The first step in teaching is expressed in the bible verse, “That they may hear”. The ultimate goal of teaching is “that they may learn”.

Paul encourages Christians to be teachers in the book of Romans when he is breaking through with teaching the Gentiles and he plainly declares there is no difference between Jew and Gentile that EVERYONE who calls on the Lord will be saved. He gets us to think about teaching in this verse:

Romans 10:14

“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of who they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”

BIBLE VERSE: Deuteronomy 6:1-2, 7

“These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may feat the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.”

“Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

God is making it clear in this passage that we should not only never stop learning or teach each other about his commands but that if we do so, we should always do so (never stopping i.e. sit at home, walking, lie down, get up) and we may also have long life this side of eternity and the other side of eternity in His kingdom.

  1. The WINNING Arm – The arm of the church that can win people to Christ

Winning could be noted as communicating the Gospel in an understandable manner and motivating a person to respond. Encouraging others to “Fear the Lord” meaning come to salvation, be saved, the prayer of salvation, knowing your eternal address.

BIBLE VERSE: John 3:16

“But God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever shall believe in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

  1. The MATURING Arm – Bring a person to completion or making them (or in this instance the church) well-rounded

Maturity as we age –

Job 12:12 “Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?”

Proverbs 16:31 “Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness”

Sunday School – even Adult SS – should help bring the attendees and other young members to maturity in Christ. This will allow the members to “carefully observe the upholding of God’s law” and then turn around and raise the next generation in these believes. We will also reap the benefits in our eternal lives by living in a way that pleases God.

BIBLE VERSE: Matthew 5:19

“Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
